Breaking the Cycle: 7 Evening Habits to Leave Behind

Are you guilty of some bad habits that you just can’t seem to break? Maybe you skip brushing your teeth at night, or fall asleep in your work clothes, or live on the edge by not charging your phone. Perhaps you find yourself aimlessly scrolling through social media or getting lost in YouTube marathons. Well, it’s time to break these habits and start fresh.

In this blog post, we’ll explore seven evening bad habits to break, and offer some tips to help you establish healthier routines before bed.

So, let’s get started and say goodbye to those bad habits for good!

1. Skipping the nighttime teeth-brushing. Let’s be honest, brushing your teeth in the morning is a must, but at night, it’s not always a priority. I mean, your live-in partner or pets won’t judge you for having stinky breath, right? Plus, it’s kind of fun to rebel against dental hygiene sometimes.

2. Falling asleep in your work clothes. After a tough day, the mere thought of changing out of your work clothes can seem like an impossible task. So, why not just collapse on the couch in your scrubs, glasses on, and contact lenses still in, taking up 75% of the space? Your husband and pets will just have to deal with it.

3. Living on the edge by not charging your phone. Who needs a fully charged phone anyway? It’s exhilarating to live life on the edge with less than 30% battery charge, and the rush only intensifies as it drops below 10%. You know that feeling you get when you open the microwave right before the timer dings? When I plug in my phone just in time with a red sliver of battery left, I yell out “HA! I win again…” (even if it’s just to an empty apartment).

That said, on the days when it does die before I get home, I’m stuck with my own thoughts, typically in bumper-to-bumper traffic, hating myself and the world for not charging it the night before. Meh, you win some, you lose some.

4. Refreshing your email inbox for a distraction. Sometimes, you just need a distraction from work, and what’s a better one than checking your email? Refreshing your inbox is the perfect way to procrastinate and avoid doing any real work.

5. Aimlessly scrolling through social media. We all know the feeling of mindlessly scanning through Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook. It’s a great way to waste time and forget about your troubles for a while. But be mindful of who you follow and the content you consume, or you might get sucked into a black hole of negativity.

6. YouTube marathons. From food vloggers to content creators, YouTube offers endless entertainment at your fingertips. I mean, who needs TV when you have YouTube? And for me, ending my day with a Mikey Chen food vlog is the perfect way to wind down.

7. Resetting your living space for the next day. Waking up to a clean kitchen sink and dishwasher is a great way to start the day. So, take a few minutes before bed to reset your living space for the next day, and you’ll feel refreshed and ready to take on the world. Plus, your pets will appreciate a clean space too!

Conclusion

It’s time to say goodbye to those evening bad habits once and for all. Whether it’s skipping nighttime teeth-brushing or falling asleep in your work clothes, breaking these habits can lead to a healthier and more productive lifestyle. By being mindful of the content you consume on social media and YouTube, and taking a few minutes before bed to reset your living spaces, you’ll wake up feeling refreshed and ready to take on the day.
